Hi Iain, you had me excited for a minute with the news. We have been waiting for waypoint support in the DJI SDK for sometime with the Mini 2 and SE drones. Unfortunately it looks like the SDK still doesn’t support waypoints:
https://developer.dji.com/api-reference/android-api/Components/Missions/DJIWaypointMission.html
“It is not supported by Spark, Mavic Mini, DJI Mini 2, DJI Mini SE, Mavic Air 2, DJI Air 2S and Matrice 300 RTK.”
We are keeping an eye on this and will report back hopefully in the near future.
Hi Dennis
Thanks for getting back to me.
I was not aware of that.
How are the other 3rd Party Apps doing waypoints - Litchi, Maven etc. ?
Great question. 3rd party apps like Litchi and others make use of the GPS to simulate waypoint navigation. By knowing the drone’s current position it’s possible to make it navigate to a waypoint that a user sets. It’s a pretty clever approach, but we aren’t ready to go down that rabbit hole just yet. Mainly because we’ve run into problems in the past with users going from Tello to Spark. Many users have tried to program their DJI GPS-based drones indoors which can lead to problems. For now we’ve decided to hold off until we have a clear path forward with the SDK. We may consider releasing a separate app so users know that DroneBlocks can only be used outdoors for GPS-based drones. Sorry I can’t provide more assistance and we hope that changes in the near future.
